Dental Care for Radiation Therapy Patients of Craniocervical Cancer

Abstract
Radiation therapy is the most effective treatment option for the patients suffering from craniocervical malignant cancer, and it contributes to increase in the survival rate of these patients. In order to reduce the dental complications, careful examinations of the patient¡¯s oral conditions and evaluations for extractions are required. During the radiation therapy, the patients are required to maintain good oral hygiene therefore tooth brushing instruction and the fluoride treatment are required to prevent the carious lesions due to radiation therapy. After the radiation therapy, the regular check-ups are required to minimize the complication and careful approach is also required for extraction or implant therapy. Patients and dental care providers need to give diversified efforts to prevent the complication due to radiation therapy.
